'SHAH MAT' /PARTI

The game chess first emerged from a game that was similarly played in India. But it was in Persia which the word 'CHECKMATE' found its origin. The Persian word for checkmate is 'SHAH MAT'.
The most important thing when playing chess is to trap the opponent's king and create a perfect position to "capture" the king and this position is 'CHECKMATE', the word checkmate means that "the King is ambushed or defeated" or basically the game is over.

For my design concept I will be using famous checkmate positions to create spaces for my entertainment center. I will combine and create positive/negative spaces using these checkmate positions.

THE BEARD STREET WAREHOUSE

The Beard Street Warehouse was built in 1869, by William Beard an Irish Immigrant who was a builder and a railroad contractor. The warehouse consists of 21 smaller warehouses, today The Beard Street Warehouse is one of the two remaining warehouses in New York Harbor. The warehouse which was once known as the W. Beard & Robinson Stores is eligible for being a New York City Landmark.

The warehouse is a two-story building, it is 48' wide, 144' in length and 28' in height.

We were given a two-story masonry building which was once used as a warehouse, now our task is to transform this historical building into a small Entertainment Center which will accommodate 250 patrons.

Here are some pictures that I took of the existing warehouse

And here is an interior shot

Here's also a short video of the warehouse
